Filling the application form is only half the story. With just 1,000 sewing machines per Assembly constituency and far more women expected to apply, not every applicant will be selected in this first phase. This page explains, in plain language, exactly who the government is prioritising, how many women will actually get a machine, and how you can track your application once it’s submitted.
Quick Eligibility Recap
Before we get into selection priority, here’s a fast refresher of who can apply in the first place. (For the full eligibility breakdown with every detail, see our main scheme guide.)
| Criteria | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Gender & Residency | Female applicants who are permanent residents of Telangana |
| Category | Backward Classes (BC) women |
| Age Limit | 18 to 55 years |
| Income Ceiling — Rural | Up to ₹1,50,000 per year |
| Income Ceiling — Urban | Up to ₹2,00,000 per year |
Priority Selection Categories — Who Gets Chosen First?
Since demand is expected to far exceed the 1.19 lakh machines available, the government has indicated that certain groups of women will be given priority during selection. Based on official announcements so far, priority is expected to go to:
| Priority Group | Why They’re Prioritised |
|---|---|
| Poorest & economically vulnerable women | Core goal of the scheme is to support those with the least financial means |
| Widows and single/deserted women | Considered among the most economically vulnerable BC women |
| Orphaned women | No family financial support system to fall back on |
| Women with disabilities (PwD) | Special category recognised directly on the application form |
| Applicants with prior tailoring experience or training certificate | Can start earning immediately without needing further training |
Some reports also mention priority consideration for women from specific marginalised communities, such as the Medara community — though this hasn’t been confirmed across multiple official sources yet.
How Many Women Will Be Selected? (Quota Breakdown)
The scheme’s first phase covers a fixed, pre-decided number of beneficiaries — it’s not first-come-first-served for the machine itself, only for the application window.
| Detail | Number |
|---|---|
| Machines per Assembly Constituency | 1,000 |
| Total Assembly Constituencies Covered | 119 |
| Total Machines in Phase 1 | 1.19 lakh (119,000) |
Distribution Timeline — What Happens After You Apply
Here’s the realistic sequence of events after you submit your application and physical documents:
- Document Verification: Your uploaded details and physical documents are checked against government records by the concerned local authorities.
- Selection List Preparation: Once the application window closes on 15 September 2026, a final beneficiary list is prepared for each constituency, based on the priority criteria and the 1,000-machine quota.
- Training Support: Selected beneficiaries — including those without prior tailoring experience — receive training and operational guidance on using the automatic sewing machine.
- Machine Distribution: The exact distribution date and method (for example, a local handover event) have not yet been officially announced. We’re tracking this closely and will update this section as soon as the government releases these details.
